The Odd Answers

What is the meaning and usage of the phrase "some odd" or perhaps "someodd"?
Q. This is a relatively popular phrase, which I can't find any information about at the moment. I'm pretty sure it means something like "roughly" or "around", but I'm wondering if it is an actual formal phrase or idiom and whether people out there have heard it used often. common examples: "He only has 200 some odd dollars left in his bank account." "I have already been waiting 15 some odd minutes here." (I'm unsure of the syntax of using it either; for instance, should there be a comma preceeding the phrase in these examples?)

A. In your two examples I wouldn't use the word "some", yes odd is used to mean roughly It costs 200 odd pounds There are 30 odd people waiting

What are some of the abnormal or "odd" symptoms you had or know of having during the beginning of pregnancy?
Q. Everyone knows the "normal" symptoms of pregnancy tender breasts, missed period, fatique, headaches, etc, but I'm curious about the little known symptoms. I heard somewhere, sometime about CM being eggwhite-like when first pregnant... is this common?

A. The most odd symptom i had was at about 6 weeks through to 9 weeks i had a extremely sore tail bone to the point where i couldn't sit down, i ended up going to the doctors and they said that normally that doesn't happen until late in pregnancy. But maybe i was just unlucky. It went away as mysteriously as it came. I am now 24 weeks and have not had a sore tailbone since.

is it just me or does it seem a liitle "odd" that jeff gorden is always the pizza hut fan favorite?
Q. I'm an edwards fan, and i really don't care who is voted the pizza hut fan favorite, i just think its a little odd that ol' number 24 always is.

A. Hey man, I was thinking the exact same thing. Gordon is always the "Pizza Hut Fan Favorite." Did Pizza Hut subliminally sponsor the 24? Do Gordon's fans get high on breadsticks and pepperoni? Whatever it is, you're right on the money. I'd have figured Junior would win it weekly, or maybe JJ, Carl, Kyle, and Tony.

Q. What wealth of musical knowledge could that little freak possibly have? Who is "she" to be advising far more talented singers? O.k...maybe a guy with pigtails and a little girl's body shouldn't be using the term "freak" so freely. Nevertheless...

Anyone experienced protection by an odd "blindness" touching someone else, allowing you to escape harm?
Q. I have had this happen. It was as though I did not exist to the other person, was able to just walk freely by them. I am counting on this odd thing, to keep others from killing me during what may be border line anarchy The predator issue of the tribulation is one of the biggest problems I am trying to deal with. The bible does relate that this happened again and again. But is it possible today? ISSUE: Have you experience a protection, when the threat seemed unable to see that you were there?

Even gone through an "odd" phase in your life and have any advice?
Q. Have you ever gone through a down time in your life where you just didn't feel fully happy or just sort of out of sorts? I'm 22 and there are lots of changes with friends, long relationships ending, people getting busy, and graduation. The last year or 2 just have been odd for me. Has anyone gone through/understand this and have any words of advice?
Asked by Ariana12 - Thu Jun 3 09:09:27 2010 - Singles & Dating - 8 Answers - Comments

A. Yes, I was about 27 when I went thru my change. This is the point in your life when you have to decide what you are going to do with the rest of your life. Start a journal, write down everything that makes you happy, everything that makes you sad, angry and do not forget to include people that make you happy and angry. Once you done that you have to remove the bad, all of it and you can never bring the bad back. I tried and realized that I just wasn't strong enough to balance all the negativity so I had to start over again. Feeling alot better now. Good Luck & really try it.

Can I translate the word "special" as "odd", "curious", "a bit strange", ''not normal"?
Q. I am reading Mary Poppins and there is such a phrase "Mr.Wigg, I know you are a little special. But to have tea in the air ! For a gentleman of your age!"
Asked by - Fri Jun 25 06:21:02 2010 - Words & Wordplay - 4 Answers - Comments

A. I think that, in this case, it would be translated as "different". But, different could be spoken of as any of your words, except perhaps "not normal". Actually, "special" is used here, I think, as a polite way of saying any of the other words, which might be ever so slightly insulting.

If an "odd" oriented person marries an "even" oriented person, then they both end up "even" right?
Q. An even number and an odd number always make an even product. On the other hand, if an "odd" person marries and "odd" person, then they're still an "odd" couple. An odd number and and an odd number always make an odd product. Math makes sense and it works too.
Asked by - Mon Jun 20 13:06:20 2011 - Mathematics - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Yes, but if you add an odd and an even number, you get an odd number. It seems to me a couple would be a sum, not a product.

Another odd "is it ok to eat this while pregnant" question?
Q. Alligator meat. Specifically alligator tail. I'm from south, GA. A town away from where the sweet onions come from and the Vidalia Onion Festival is next month. And usually they have "Gator Tail" and I was just making sure there isn't some off the wall reason that pregnant women aren't suppose to eat alligator. And if I can't eat it that's fine, there's always funnel cake and "bloomin" onions.
Asked by - Sat Mar 13 15:18:32 2010 - Pregnancy - 9 Answers - Comments

A. If it's cooked properly and thoroughly then it's fine. If this is a roadside festival kind of thing I' probably avoid it just because of the way that kind of food is usually handled but as long as it's cooked really well done then there shouldn't be a problem. btw, what does gator meat taste like? I've always been curious. lol

Why do pantyliners make me have an "odd" odor?
Q. When I use pantyliners, by the end of the day, that part of my body has an odd odor. It isnt a bad odor, but odd, kind of like mashed potatoes. Could it be the type of pantyliner? Should I change the kind and see if that helps? Right now I use Kotex pantyliners.
Asked by - Tue Apr 5 07:59:43 2011 - Women's Health - 1 Answers - Comments

A. It may be because the pantyliners decrease airflow, and your crotch gets more sweaty. Try wearing cotton underwear and go without pantyliner for a few days, and see if it improves. Pantyliners are a matter of personal preference, but they are not needed per se; your underwear is there to protect your clothing from getting dirty, it's not necessary to protect the protection.

Odd "blue motorcycle" drink laws in North Carolina?
Q. One of my friends told me I wasn't drinking a "real" blue motorcycle due to a North Carolina law about "too much alcohol". Now, NC bars and restaurants do serve shots of whatever liquor you want (besides government regulated alcohol like absinthe, moonshine, etc) so what exactly does my friend mean? If its true, why did North Carolina out law the "real" blue motorcycle recipe?
Asked by alyse782557 - Fri Jan 30 22:13:00 2009 - Beer, Wine & Spirits - 1 Answers - Comments

A. state liquor laws vary greatly. some states have limits on how much alcohol a specific drink can contain, or what is legal in %. Its also sometimes regulated on a county-level i don't see any state law listed that would regulate what a mixed drink can contain.
